Is It a Sin?
Synopsis
The lives of an aspiring chef and a recently divorced woman are forever changed when a chance encounter brings them together in a decades-long, deeply moving romance. Director John Crowley also directed Andrew Garfield in Garfield’s first feature film, Boy A (2007). Written by Al Hazan, played by Allie Hazan. The film tells the story of two complete strangers who eventually start a family.
But it does it in a tender and authentic way
It takes us on a journey – a beautiful journey – with all the highs and happy moments, but also the lows and real difficulties that couples often face, including unexpected, devastating news. The atmosphere of the film is marked by tender, pure and soothing moments that create a warm atmosphere. Andrew Garfield fits the role perfectly, bringing charm and authenticity, and his performance is outstanding. The rest of the cast delivers convincing performances and the subtle humor makes the film even more appealing.
The frequent time jumps left me with mixed feelings
It avoids a cliched ending and is clever and efficient – not overly emotional, but satisfying nonetheless. Even if they weren’t entirely effective, I think they worked well enough here. Moreover, some minor details in the story weren’t convincing. However, the film’s main flaw is its inability to evoke stronger emotions.
Overall, this is a solid love story – sweet, pure, and complete
It lacks the deep connection that would take it from a sweet love story to a more impactful drama. You get invested in the characters, but the connection isn’t strong enough to evoke sadness or shock at key moments. However, it doesn’t reach emotional high points that would leave a lasting impact. While it could benefit from a deeper emotional exploration, I still think it’s an entertaining film – tender, honest, and pure!
