It is actually “Until you are known in my profession as a monster, you will not be a star.” Maxine Minx: Do you know what happened to the last person who tried to kill me? I bashed her fucking head in.. Fitting with the film’s ’80s aesthetic, after the credits, a “Be kind rewind” sticker is displayed, like in many video stores.
After a promising half-hour opening, “Maxxxine” then branched off into a confusing, unintelligible mess that went off in all sorts of directions

The script weaves in subplots involving a sleazy detective and satanic serial killers with a jaw-dropping explanation at the end that makes absolutely no sense in relation to what happened in “Pearl.” And it’s never explained why Maxine is so resistant to working with the police to find out who was committing the murders. There are great performances here from everyone involved (especially Mia Goth and Kevin Bacon, as usual), and some dark humor about the dark side of staying relevant in Hollywood that really stood out.
I recommend waiting for the release
But it felt like the plot was written quickly in about two days, with very little thought given to using logic or being faithful to the previous two films in the trilogy. After looking forward to seeing “Maxxxine” for months, the film was a disappointment for me. A24 has produced some of the most memorable horror films of the 21st century.
